Movie And A Beer Episode 83: Desperado
Tuesday May 10, 2022
Tuesday May 10, 2022
For this episode of Movie And A Beer, we celebrate Cinco-De-Mayo by watching the classic 1995 Robert Rodriguez film Desperado. We also enjoyed a couple of classic imported cerveza's from Mexico to go along with this "south of the border Pulp Fiction". Staring the likes of Antonio Banderas, Steve Buscemi, Salma Hayek, and many more, who are either trying to escape from or seek revenge on Bucho, the drug lord that murdered the El Mariachi's girlfriend and shot him in the hand.
While this film is short on dialogue and story, it makes up for that with great visuals and action. Not kid-friendly, but definitely beer-friendly! Give the episode a listen to learn more.

Movie And A Beer Episode 82: Mean Girls
Tuesday May 03, 2022
Tuesday May 03, 2022
We've traveled back to 2004 again to watch Mean Girls for this Movie And A Beer podcast episode. Watch out for the Plastics and don't let your guard down! This great teen drama follows Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as she works her way into the best click while playing both sides.
In order to appreciate this 'chick flick' of a film, we sipped on some hard-seltzers from a couple of great breweries. The first samples were from Untitled Art Beverage (WI) and the last was from Lone River Brewing (TX). Give the episode a listen to how we liked these and how much they really went with the drama on the screen.

Movie And A Beer Episode 81: He Died With A Felafel In His Hand
Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
Tuesday Apr 19, 2022
On this struggling writer episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched the 2001 Aussie-based film He Died With A Felafel In His Hand and enjoyed a couple of amazing beers while doing so. The film follows Danny, played by Noah Taylor, a struggling 30-something writer who's bouncing across Australia in different shared housing situations and the experiences he and his housemates have.
The beers we picked out for this episode were on point. The first was a Pilsner from Stormbreaker Brewing (OR) followed by a Hefeweizen from Barrel Mountain Brewing (WA). Both really provided a great platform to enjoy the film with. Give the episode a listen to learn more and hear us try to figure out some Australian slang.

Movie And A Beer Episode 80: Moonfall
Tuesday Apr 12, 2022
Tuesday Apr 12, 2022
On this episode of Movie And A Beer, we experimented with recording in space, where the sound is tinny and air is thin. We also watched Moonfall and drank some beers that visited space or had something to do with the moon or aliens at least. Moonfall is one of those big blockbuster Sci-Fi CGI driven films that sometimes has great acting, but often poor scripting and weird gaps in logic. This one didn't disappoint in that in the least bit.
The three beers we tried with the film included: a beer whos yeast had gone to space and back from Ninkasi Brewing (OR), a beer who was about a black hole but was heat struck from Pono Brewing (OR), and finally a collaboration hazy IPA from 903 Brewers (TX) that took us to the moon and back. Give the episode a listen to hear more about these and the awful way you can become a part of the moon!

Tuesday Apr 05, 2022
On this hormone-driven kid-friendly episode of Movie And A Beer, we review the Pixar animated film Turning Red with our youth correspondent Otto and discuss some snacks, drinks, and beers along the way. Led by the 13 year-old Chinese-Canadian Meilin, who's not-so-secret ability to turn into a giant red panda, learns what it means to be a friend and responsible for your actions the hard way.
We really enjoyed a couple of beers that went well with the film due to their crazy/tropical and colorful flavor profiles. Specifically a Gose from Modern Times (CA) and a fruited sour from Von Eberts (OR). Give the episode a listen and learn all about these beers and the snacks we tried.

Tuesday Mar 29, 2022
Tuesday Mar 29, 2022
On this technology vs. magic episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched the 1977 post-apocalyptic experimental animated film Wizards by Ralph Bakshi. This is an excellent story about how factions, race, and good versus evil don't always have identifiable boundaries.
We enjoyed three amazingly 'magical' beers from Mutantis Brewing (OR), Away Days Brewing (OR), and Threshold Brewing and Blending (OR) while watching the film. We get into some lengthy discussion about animation and how these beers fit or didn't fit the feel of it. Give the episode a listen to learn why.

On this ocean bound episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched and discuss the 2004 Wes Anderson film, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and a trio of Dark Lagers that brought together the complexity and intrigue of life aboard the Belafonte. Bill Murray's character commands a small crew of collaborators and friends while sailing the seven seas on a journey of revenge against the Jaguar Shark.
We really enjoyed the three beers we sampled during the film from Baerlic Brewing (OR), Matchless Brewing (WA), and Little Beast Brewing (OR). All had a unique approach and this didn't always align with the film, but all have distinct merits and a great quality. Listen in to hear about these beers and a great conversation about film on the big screen vs. small screen.

Thursday Mar 10, 2022
Thursday Mar 10, 2022
On this high-flying and butt-kicking episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched the 2004 classic Kung Fu Hustle. Co-written, directed, and starring Stephen Cho, this homage to the classic martial arts films from the '60s-'70s provides a great platform for the hero's journey from being the bad guy to becoming one with himself and helping those around him. Taking place in 1940's Shanghai China, the film follows a couple of wanna-be gangsters that learn that releasing one's chi is the gateway to enlightenment, even if it means being beaten to a pulp to achieve it.
While enjoying this fun film, we had a couple of draft beers that went head to head against each other. The first one was a red ale from Old Town Brewing (OR) and the second was a Pilsner from Crux Fermentation Project. (OR). Both were satisfying, but only one could be the winner. Listen in to hear all about these beers and this great Kung Fu movie.

Friday Feb 25, 2022
Friday Feb 25, 2022
On this teenager vs. alien episode of Movie And A Beer, we discuss the great 2011 movie Attack The Block and enjoyed a couple of outstanding beers with it. Written and directed by Joe Cornish, it follows a group of south London teenagers as they defend their block against an alien invasion. Staring John Boyega and a group of new actors, the film does a great job of paying homage to the old 50's monster flicks, while staying true to the local slang and lives of the kids.
We had a couple of outstanding beers with the film, first was a lager from Modern Times Brewing (OR) and the second was a SMASH (Single Malt and Single Hop) West Coast IPA from Beachwood Brewing. Give the episode a listen to hear more about these beers and our poor attempt at using British slang.

Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
On this 'sandals and swords' episode of Movie And A Beer we discuss the 2004 classic movie Troy with our friend and guest host Aaron. Directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring a wide range of famous actors to include Brad Pitt, Brendan Gleeson, Orlando Bloom, Diane Kruger, and Brian Cox among others, this old-school epic follows Homer's the Illiad of the war between the Spartans and Trojans over Queen Helen.
While this three-hour movie was a bit long, drawn-out, battle-ridden, and beautifully designed, we found ourselves enjoying a few cans of lager/pilsners from Von Ebert's (OR), 54'40' (WA), and Cloudburst Brewing (WA). Give the episode a listen to hear us discuss our view on these battling "countries" and how the beers went with the film.

Movie And A Beer Episode 71: Sing 2
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
On this amazingly musical episode of Movie And A Beer we discuss the kid's karaoke film Sing 2. With 36 current and older songs throughout, Sing 2 is an animation fest full of amazing voice acting and shallow story telling. Great for young kids, and for adults that want to watch something and do some karaoke from home.

This horror flick has plenty of great special effects, but falls a bit flat on the writing and story.
We enjoyed a couple of great beers while watching, both west coast style IPAs. The first was from Beachwood Brewing (CA) and the second from Ruse Brewing (OR). Give the episode a listen to hear more about these beers and some backstory on the video games the movie is based on.

Tuesday Dec 07, 2021
Tuesday Dec 07, 2021
On this sandworm inspired episode of Movie And A Beer, we discuss the epic sci-fi adaptation of Frank Herbert's novel Dune by Denis Villeneuve. The film is both visually stunning and the complex characters are portrayed by a wonderful set of actors. While the film follows the trials and tribulations of young Paul Atreides, it attempts to do justice to the issues presented within the novel such as the political, social-economic, and ecological issues the indigenous people of Arrakis face. This film allows the viewer to both engage with the story, and feel the struggles being portrayed on the screen.
We also discuss a few beer options that you might enjoy during the film, and briefly learn what "decoction" is in beer making. So, sit back, and give this episode a listen!

Friday Oct 22, 2021

On this fun and musical episode of Movie And A Beer, we watched The Muppets Haunted Mansion movie with our youth correspondent Otto. While we did gorge ourselves on candy, popcorn, and butter beer, there was some fun insights into how scary a Muppet ghost really is and how much the human actors must have had while making this musical scary experience.
We also enjoyed some 'seasonal' pumpkin beers from Elysian Brewing and finished it off with an NE IPA from Rogue Brewing. All of the spiced and fall beers were on point, the IPA was a bit of a stretch for us. Give the episode a listen to hear more about these and our fond memories of the Muppet Show's of the past.
